Business website promotion is nothing more than the process of getting your website in front of more people.

Sounds simple right? It’s likely you’ve heard the saying “If you build it, they will come”.

Well, that might work for a popular movie script, but when it comes to creating websites and getting traffic to those websites, this statement couldn’t be further from the truth.

In today’s internet world where there are millions of websites online, it’s not enough just to build a website and hope that people will show up.

You must take proactive steps to promote your site if you want a constant stream of customers and website visitors.

As a business owner, there are several ways that you can promote your website AND retain those site visitors.

First, get your website listed in the local online directories. All of the major search engines, Google, Bing and Yahoo have an area specifically created for the local business owner.

By doing a simple search in any one of these search engines for “add local business” you’ll be able to find the search engines local submission form quickly.
Secondly, you’ll want to retain those site visitors that do find your website. One way to do this is to offer them a weekly newsletter that may include coupons, specialized information they couldn’t find elsewhere, training videos, or other similar enticements that will make them curious about what else you have to offer.

Encourage them to sign up to your newsletter by using an opt-in box on your website which will automatically subscribe them to your email list. This way you can keep in touch with them on a consistent basis.
Third, have a good amount of keyword rich content on your website. The amount of content you have on your website is absolutely key to where the search engines place your site in its search results. The more good content you have on your website, the more likely it is your site will start to move up in the search engine listings for your site’s topic.

The best way to ensure that the search engines are noticing you?

Add fresh content on a regular basis and make sure that all of your content is keyword-rich.

In other words, each page on your site should focus on one key term about the overall content of your site.
Fourth, consider holding a promotion or a contest. Give something away for free at your site or offer a substantial discount on one of your products. These contests don’t have to be limited to just your website either.

If you have a Facebook page you can hold a contest or a promotion on your Facebook page. If you have a Twitter account, post on Twitter that you’re holding a contest or having a promotion.

For example, your “special promotion” is only available for members of your Facebook page or for your Twitter followers.

These methods will all get you large amounts of incoming traffic that you can then offer your newsletter to – thus having more people to market to later on.

Business website promotion isn’t difficult to do but it does take a little bit of creative thinking.

If you’ve begun researching internet marketing and work from home opportunities, you already realize that there are many different angles and approaches you can take. In fact, there are so many it can sometimes make your head swim!

Almost all of these approaches to internet marketing have one thing in common: They require that you build and maintain at least one Web site. That makes perfect sense: We are talking about internet marketing and online business, after all!

It might make sense, but some of us don’t know how to create a Web site. More to the point, some of us have no real desire to learn. We want to publish eBooks or promote products as affiliates or build some other kind of online business. We don’t want to learn how to speak to computers or Web browsers in their own language.

Fortunately, relatively new software technology enables people like us to build a Web site without really knowing what we’re doing. These tools are known by the techie acronym “WYSIWYG,” for “what you see is what you get.”

WYSIWYG programs do just what the name suggests: They allow you to build the Web site by showing you only the finished product, not all the underlying code (e.g., HTML, PHP, and other stuff you don’t really need to know). Design Hosting Internet Marketing Web

There are mainstream commercial programs such as Front Page and Dreamweaver you can buy, but they come with a couple of caveats. First, they’re expensive. And second, they can still have a steep enough learning curve to be daunting for those of us with absolutely no technical skills or inclinations.

The first problem is nicely answered by an open source WYSIWYG editor called Nvu (pronounced “N-View”). Nvu is based on the Mozilla platform and is free to download and use. You can’t beat the price.

Nvu is fairly easy to use, but its learning curve will still be a little steep for true technical illiterates (such as me).

When I finally admitted that I could no longer avoid learning how to build a Web site, I went to Google and typed in something like “easiest way to build a Web site.” One of the search results that came up was for a program called BlueVoda.

BlueVoda looks a lot like a word processing program. In general, it’s more intuitive and easy to use than Word. You click on a button to create boxes for text or images. You put your text or images in those boxes. You move them around until you like how they look. You preview the result in your browser. You click on the “publish” button. You’re done.
