RSS: The Basics All Bloggers Should Know

Blogs are making it possible for all of the world’s information to be accessible. But keeping up-to-date with the multitude of information you are interested in can be overwhelming. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the freshest news and content delivered directly to you without having to surf from one blog to another? RSS informs you when blogs have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and blog entries be they text, audio files, photographs or video in one screen as soon as they are published.

Figuring Out RSS

You must have noticed the little orange buttons with the icons XML, RSS, Subscribe, and Syndicate This Site when you visit blogs. Clicking on the button, all you will see is a heap of computer codes. This is an RSS feed.

RSS stands for RDF Site Summary, Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. The latter is the most popular descriptive definition. RSS is a feed format that allows blog publishers to share and distribute content to other blogs or individual web surfers. Bloggers use RSS to provide updates in the form of blog posts. If a blog publishes RSS content commonly known as RSS feed, this feed will include summaries of all the entries posted on that blog. RSS is written in the Internet coding language XML, thus some buttons are labeled as such.

The first part of an RSS feed is a descriptive detail about the “channel” or the source that is publishing the content. The “channel” may include the title of the source, a short description, its blog address, date the information was last updated, name and e-mail address of the blog author. The second part is the list of items. Each “item” represents one published piece of content. Each “item” includes the headline of the entry (title), a two to three sentence summary of the entry (description) and the URL address to read the full entry.

RSS feeds are meant to be read by a software or web-based application known as a feed reader. Feed readers understand the data contained in RSS feeds and translates these data and make available to Internet users or customized blogs,

Subscribing to RSS Feeds

To receive updates or view RSS feeds, you will need a feed reader. A feed reader is an application that allows you to subscribe (add a feed) to a blog and receive quick summaries when that blog is updated. This application is also referred to as RSS reader, news aggregator, news reader or feed aggregator. When you subscribe to RSS feeds, the feed reader collect from different blogs and organize them in a convenient place for you to read rather than you visiting individual blogs looking for new content. Whenever new content is posted from one of the feeds you are subscribed to, the feed reader displays the new headlines. You can go over the headlines and if one is particularly interesting, you can click the headline and you will be brought to the original source where you can read the entire content.

There are primarily two versions of feed readers – web-based and stand-alone applications. Web-based or online feed readers provide a quick start for RSS subscriptions. They let you read your RSS feeds from any computer. Some of these readers are free while others with advanced features are offered at a cost. Some examples of web-based feed readers are Google Reader, My Yahoo and Bloglines. Stand-alone or downloadable feed readers are applications that you install on your main computer just like the Microsoft Outlook e-mail program. These feed readers are usually run in the background. A sound or pop-up window notifies you of any updates. SharpReader is a free feed reader for Windows. For Mac users, a preferred feed reader is NetNewsWire.

Once you have a feed reader, you can choose what you want to receive in your feed reader. You can also add feeds through the RSS buttons of your favorite blogs. Clicking on the RSS orange icon, you can subscribe to the feed by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your feed reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your feed reader. Most blogs offer RSS feeds using the orange RSS, XML button. Conversely, you can also create your own RSS feed.

Creating an RSS Feed

You can also create you own feeds. It is a pretty easy task. The hard part is creating the content itself. The feed part is usually just using the standard RSS format that notifies the feed reader which sections of your blog entry relates to the RSS title, description, date, link and other pertinent data. This is done using XML format, the standard method of surrounding the significant parts of the content with tags that the feed reader understands. Once content has been set up with an RSS feed, then it is ready for the reading public.

Publishing an RSS Feed

You can add RSS syndication as a publishing option in your blog. In some cases, this is done automatically, without you having to set up anything. If you are using a blogging tool software like Blogger, TypePad or WordPress, publishing a feed is one of their built-in features plus some other feed-related options. Other types of feed readers may require programming skills to add RSS syndication. Once you have created an RSS feed with your blogging software, pipe it through your feed reader and voila, a whole stream of benefits awaits you.

Benefiting from RSS

The most compelling use of RSS is that it lets you take hold of information you are interested in and have it updated for you in one place where you can read it within the shortest possible time. RSS has been embraced by individual users, blog publishers and businesses as well.

For individual users, RSS feeds keep them updated on news, information and blog posts. There is no need to visit numerous blogs. There is no deluge of e-mail newsletters that clutter the mailbox. Unlike e-mail, there is no spam. Opting out can be done anytime and there is no need to give any contact information to subscribe to a feed. An individual user can also customize content that comes to him and ignore blog entries that are of no interest to him. There is absolutely no need to check back for new postings as the feed reader delivers content to him.

For blog publishers, RSS permits quick distribution of new blog entries to individual users in a convenient way. RSS feeds when incorporated into a blog offers a more personalized and interactive user experience, strengthening blog presence and maximizing revenue opportunities.

For businesses, RSS feeds enable them to do without regularly checking blogs for important updates or plowing through a pile of e-mail distribution lists. RSS provides businesses with much-needed fresh information. RSS feeds are extremely helpful for brand marketing, customer service, internal and external communications and competitive awareness.

In a nutshell, if you want to be informed of the latest news and happenings around the world and is having a hard time managing information overload, RSS is the answer.

Hopefully, these basics can help you get started with RSS. It may be difficult to understand at first, but once you get the gist of it, surfing the web will be effortless with RSS.

Posting on Blogs – What You Need to Know to Get Blog Traffic

Posting on blogs is easy. Getting blog traffic is not. There are a lot of blogs out there and only so many blog readers to go around. If you are thinking about posting on blogs or if you are already posting on blogs but not getting the kind of blog traffic you want, there are a few things you can do to make your blogs more interesting than some of the other blogs you are competing with.

Research Prior to Posting on Blogs

Blogs that get a lot of blog traffic have one thing in common: they cover topics that people are interested in reading about. To make sure your topics will be of interest to the general public it is a good idea to research various topics before posting on blogs. You can perform general searches on the Internet to see what’s popular and what’s not. You can also read other blogs that are similar to yours. If they have high blog traffic and lots of comments, they are probably hitting on good topics.

Consider Your Tone before Posting on Blogs

Blogs are different than news stories. People read blogs because they want to hear opinions along with facts. And as crazy as it might sound, people want to hear YOUR thoughts. Don’t be afraid to state your case or add commentary when posting to blogs. Personal opinions, tone, and writing style all help to draw in regular blog traffic. So, consider these things carefully before posting on blogs. They will have a huge impact on your success.

You Can Get More Blog Traffic with Short Posts

Posting on blogs is slightly different than posting on other types of web pages. Blog readers like short posts–really short posts. Short blogs are fun and easy to read. Long blogs, on the other hand, look intimidating and time consuming. If you want people to actually read what you are posting on blogs or if you’d like to see repeat blog traffic, it is a good idea to present as much information as you can in a limited number of words. A good rule of thumb when posting on blogs is to keep each post under 250 words.

Think About Blog Traffic Posting On Blogs

Quality doesn’t always equal success when posting on blogs. There are lots of good blogs out there that don’t get a lot of blog traffic. The reason is because nobody knows they exist. You can avoid this pitfall by thinking about blog traffic before you begin posting on blogs. Things to consider specifically include keywords and keyword phrases. If you can use natural keyword placement in the blog’s title and throughout the body of the text, your posts stand a better chance of making it into search engine rankings and a better chance of drawing more blog traffic.

Always Think About Your Readers When Posting On Blogs

When posting on blogs nothing is more important than your blog traffic (a.k.a. your audience.) Some of the things readers like to see on blogs include: snappy headlines, bulleted or formatted lists, links, and information that is easy to scan.

PPC Advertising Things You Should Know

Prior launching the promotion of a website thru a{ PPC search website, it is very important to take into account one or two significant steps. Listening to the following points will not just raise one’s conversion rate, but it will also minimize the advertiser’s's probabilities of spending your money as a result of fraudulent clicking. There is a professional PPC software that makes the process easy: PPC Loophole

1.Title and description:

When choosing the title and description for one’s ad, a PPC advertiser should take special care to embody authentic, attention grasping info about PPC advertiser ‘s service or product. For instance, if you are pushing an online casino website, then one may think about using a circumstantial title like ‘Online Casino’ vs the title ‘Gambling’ which is too broad and general. An example of a precise and attention grabbing outline might be ‘Get +1,000 $+ in free casino bonuses’ vs a broad description such as ‘Directory of Internet casinos’. Which title and outline would you be rather more likely to click on? ‘Online Casinos : directory of net casinos’ or ‘Online Casinos : Get +1,000 $ in free casino bonuses’?

2.Keywords

Choose topical keywords that exactingly define the product or service that you’re promoting. Given adequate time and skills, one can actually find a handful of related keywords for any theme. However , using a great list of keywords is not suggested due to the fact that in most cases only a little fraction of these keywords are relevant while the vast greater part of the keywords are not, and would only help to waste the advertiser’s money. For instance, while the subsequent keywords may exactingly define a web casino directory ‘online casino, online casinos, online casino directory’, other keywords like ‘gambling, poker chips, Las Vegas’ are too general, too obscure and in most situations unimportant to the subject of interest.

3.SERPs

The 1st set of positions in search engine results will typically entice the most amount of traffic. Granting this has benefits for the one marketer whose results are present in the first set of search ends in Google, Yahoo, Bing and other free search engines, it may not be the case for persons whose search results emerge in the top positions of PPC search site results. Most pay-per-click search engines have affiliate marketing programmes which offer webmasters motivations to push them, and the more people an associate webmaster can get to click on the paid listings, the extra cash he/she earns. While many pay-per-click search engines have anti-fraud mechanisms implemented to attenuate the risk of an advertiser misspending his/her money as a result of fake clicking, some pay per click search engines may not. Because of this, it’s not unceasingly advisable to bid for the first 3 search result positions of a PPC search website only if the pay per click search website has a particularly adequate anti-fraud application to protect the PPC marketer from fake activity.

4.Digging into the PPC search website:

Previously to opening an account with any pay per click search site, it is advisable to read as many analysis about the search engine as possible. Most especially, read about the experiences of people who have used it previously. Does it have good purchaser service? What anti-fraud system does it employ? What is it’s Alexa.com rank? Who else is advertising on it? Are there any super affiliates advertising on it? How do the bid amounts of the pay per click search website contrast to the bid amounts of other pay per click search engnes? These will usually give you a clue of whether to use it or not.

5.Tracking Sales:

Depending on the service or product being pushed, there are several paths to track the outcome of an advertising campaign. If you’re the webmaster of a selected site which has it’s own affiliate marketing programme, then you may want to consider setting up a novel associate account for each PPC search site that you choose to use. For instance, you’ll set up an affiliate account for PPC search site xyz and call the affiliate account xyz. Then you can follow up the usefulness of search site xyz by auditing the profitability of affiliate account xyz. Some affiliate programs permit advertisers to line up unique advertising campaigns with unique linking codes, landers, and so on. These are also superb for keeping track of the efficiency of pay per click search engines.

Auditing Traffic:

One mean of tracking the traffic received from PPC search engines would be to allocate a singular entry point for each pay per click search engine and to observe the stats of that entry point. A different method of tracking the traffic received from pay per click search engines could be to add the tag ?Name-of-PPC-search-Engine at the end of the url being promoted on the PPC search engine. This would serve to inform the advertiser as to which pay-per-click search website sent a selected visitor. The only way to watch the traffic received from a PPC search site is to add an full-scale statistics tracker to a domain in order to monitor exactly where the traffic is coming from. It is very important to keep a close eye on where your traffic is coming from because if there’s any fraudulent activity going on, you’d desire to stop it before your advertising funds expire. As an example, if a PPC search website affiliate has posted a link back to your service/product with deceiving words in order to inspire his visitors to click your listing, then you’d need to understand about it before your promotion money are drained due to fake clicking.

6.Track Bids:

It is very important to monitor the bids for the keywords chosen on a regular basis. Bid amounts continually change as advertising accounts drop out and new advertising accounts open, etc. For instance, if you are paying $0.24 per click to be in the 3rd position of the search results for a specific keyword, but position number four is only bidding $0.04 per click, then you are wasting $0.20 per click as you would only need to bid $0.05 per click to be in the 3rd position of the search results.

What You Must Know About Website Promotion

If you run your own internet business, then creating a website is essential. It is the only way that customers and clients can find you and it enables them to find out more about the company and how you can potentially help them. Even if you run an offline company, it can still be extremely beneficial to have your own company website.

However, it is not just enough to put up a website for your company; you also have to promote it too. If you don’t spend time promoting the site then you will gain no customers.

Understanding Website Promotion

There are various methods of website promotion that you can use. A common one is placing banners on other websites that will link back to your site. However, you can also promote your website through search engine optimization, which basically involves submitting your site to search engines where customers can find you after searching for particular words. You place tags in the text of your site and when a potential client types in those tag words, they will be presented with a link to your website.

Search engine optimization is extremely common but it is not the only way of promoting your site. However, it is one of the main techniques that you should focus on and it can be difficult understanding how to optimize your site for the best search results.

What You Should Avoid

When it first came about, search engine optimization mainly included listing as many targeted words and phrases as possible within the site as you could. This meant that some text did not make sense. So, to stop junk sites being promoted highly on their networks, search engines began to change the rules.

These days it is advisable to limit the amount of keywords that you use. For example, if your target keyword is applying for a loan, do not overload the website with that keyword. Keep it down to around 1-2% density and that way you will have good website promotion text that will be favorable to most search engines.

Another point to remember is to keep the keywords as unique as possible. If you are selling radiators for example, it is likely that your keyword will be radiators. However, there is likely to be thousands of other websites with the same keywords. So it would be a good idea to change the word slightly and perhaps have a more specific phrase. It could be Radiators followed by the place where your business is run, changing it to something such as Radiators Alabama.

Generally, search engine optimization is the best form of website promotion available today. However, you could also try pay per click banners and affiliate marketing too. For best results, you should combine a number of different website promotion methods. That way, you will reach more customers and therefore gain more profits!

Overall website promotion may seem complicated at first, but once you know the general rules, it is fairly simple. It isn’t something you should skip, as you need website promotion to reach potential clients and customers.
