A blog is basically an online journal wherein you can digitally pen down your thoughts, ideas, opinions and practically anything that you want people to read. Blogs come in different styles, formats, and settings, depending on the preference of the user. Many blogging sites, offer built in features such as hyperlink, straight texts, pictures etc. Some blogging sites, even allow you to put video and mp3′s on your blogs.  

Instead of writing texts, some bloggers choose to make their blogs more audio friendly, by using spoken word entries. This is called audio blogging.

Basically a blog contains these features:

title- which allows you to label your post
body- this is the content of your post
trackback- other sites can be linked back to your blog
permanent link- every article that you write has a URL
comments- this allow readers to post comments on your blog.

One of the advantages of blogging, is that it is made of only a few templates. Unlike, other websites that is made up of numerous individual pages. This make it easier for blog users to create new pages, because it already has a fix setting that include: slots for title, body of the post, category, etc.

This is especially useful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away. They can chose from a  number of templates that blogging websites provide.

Anyone who wants to start a blog can do so by becoming a member of a blogging website of their choice. Once they’ve become members, they automatically become a part of that particular blogging community. They can browse through other bloggers pages, and link them back to their own blogs. They can also make comments on other members’ blogs.

Blogging is not just limited to personal usage. There are a lot of blogs that follow a theme such as: sports, politics, philosophy, social commentary, etc. These blogs espouse on their specific themes. This way blogging becomes a medium in which people can share their knowledge and opinions about a variety of themes and topics.

Some bloggers even use their blogs as a means to advertise. Some authors advertise their books on their blogs. While other bloggers, use their blogs to shed light to currents issues, events, news and catastrophes.  

Nowadays in education, blogs also play an important part. Professors use blogging to document the lessons that they have discussed and taught. This way, students who who have missed classes, can easily catch up with their assignments.

A lot of entrepreneurs benefit from blogging by promoting their businesses on their blogs, with millions and millions of people logging onto the net everyday, blogging has become a lucrative move. Some bloggers who run online businesses promote their merchandise online. While others profit through advertisement.

But by far, the most popular blog type is the one that takes the form of a personal journal. This is the kind that is usually used by first time bloggers. Individuals who want to document the daily struggle of their everyday lives, poems, rants, opinions, find that blogging offers them a medium in which to express themselves.

Bloggers usually communicate within themselves. This is one of the appeals of blogging. It creates a community of people sharing their ideas, thoughts, and comments with each other.

Blogs varying in topics, themes, and set-ups, can be found in blog directories. First time users who want to get an idea of what the blogging world is all about can browse through a number of blogs using these directories. This way they’d get an idea of what these blogging communities are like.

Blogging is popular all over the world. Blog is short for the term weblog. There are no rules when it comes to blogging. Bloggers have the freedom to express themselves how ever way they want, and the best thing about blogging, is that most blogging sites are free.  

There are numerous blogging websites to choose from in the net. This give first time users the option of joining a blogging community that appeals to their interests.  

Just search any blogging directory and you’d get a listing of a lot of blogging sites that are available on the net. It’s easy to search a blogging directory, because it is organized according to category. This way you would get exactly what you are after. Blogging is really for everyone. It is fun, simple and easy.

While some bloggers may focus exclusively on only one blog at a time, there are many bloggers who manage to maintain several different blogs concurrently. However, not all bloggers do this successfully. Some bloggers compromise quality of content as well as quantity of content by trying to maintain too many blogs while other bloggers have the ability to keep several blogs up to date and interesting to visitors. There are a few key elements to maintaining multiple successful blogs. This article will discuss some of these elements including keeping content original, keeping blogs up to date and budgeting time to work on each blog.

Keeping Content Original

Bloggers who maintain multiple blogs must be careful to keep the content of each blog original. Even if the blogger maintains several related blogs it is important to ensure each of these blogs has original blog postings. This will help to prevent blog visitors from feeling as though the information they are receiving is not original. It will also help to prevent readers who frequently visit one or more of the bloggers blogs from deciding to start only visiting one of the blogs because they feel the postings are redundant.

Bloggers are also advised against stealing posts from other similar blogs. This is not only illegal but is also not likely to help the blogger much because dedicated readers of the original blog are likely to realize the new blog is simply stealing content from a more successful blog.

Keeping Each Blog Up to Date

Bloggers who maintain multiple blogs are also advised to ensure each blog is kept up to date. This means they should take care to post on each blog regularly. Doing this will help to avoid problems which stem from blog visitors feeling as though the blogs are stagnant. Even the most interesting and informative blogs can lose traffic quickly if the blog visitors do not see new content on a regular basis. The Internet is continually evolving and updating. As a result Internet users can afford to be finicky and are not likely to remain dedicated to a blog which does not post new information regularly because they can likely find other blogs available which do provide updates on a more frequent basis.

Finding Time to Work on Each Blog

Bloggers who maintain several blogs are also tasked with the dilemma of finding time to work on each blog. However, this is very important because bloggers cannot afford to neglect one or more of their blogs. Doing this can result in a marked decline in blog traffic. Therefore bloggers who wish to maintain multiple blogs must budget their time carefully to ensure they are dedicating sufficient time to each blog. This time management exercise may start out by assessing the needs of each blog. Some blogs may require a great deal of time and effort each week to keep the blog functioning properly while other blogs may require only a small amount of time for the same purpose. In general blogs which require a great deal of research will require more time and energy of the blogger than blogs which are based on the bloggers opinions and feelings and are therefore not as research intensive. Once the blogger has determined how much time it will be required to maintain each blog, he can schedule his time accordingly. However, he should plan to evaluate how well each blog is operating and may have to make adjustments to the schedule as needed. Additionally, he may also need to make a decision to eliminate a blog or enlist assistance in keeping the blogs updated if necessary.

How Can I Define a Blog

Have you been an ardent follower of celebrities’ blogs?  Are you the kind who wants to communicate your thoughts to people instantly? Or are you among those who like to maintain a dairy? Then why not start writing a blog instead of answering these questions in affirmative. To simplify, I can term blog a Digital Dairy where your posts are chronologically maintained.

Actually speaking, a blog is a concentrated word for ‘Web log’. It is kind of a website where you can put in entries, commentaries, descriptions videos and even graphics. Sounds fascinating! Blogging can be done for personal or for professional reasons. Your motive is the driving force behind your posts.

How Should I start blogging

You don’t have to be a writer material for writing a blog. All you need is translating your opinions, point of views, ideas into words and jotting them down. Just follow your heart and use your head and here blogging becomes an easy and exciting practice. I have seen many people who simply don’t have much of writing experience. But I must tell you that doesn’t mean that their blogs are not worth reading. Rather, as they are non pretentious, they are the most interesting ones to read. All you have to do is visit any of the online blogging sites, create your account, choose your template and start posting your entries right there. Simple enough! Start searching for blogger, typepad, Live Journal, blogware and wordpress today and make the world feel your presence.

How to make a blog appealing

This question might have perturbed many bloggers. They write so well, they have command over the language yet the numbers of followers is so thin. May be this is an answer to their question. The blogs should be appealing. When I say appealing that doesn’t mean it should have flowery language, too many of photos or videos. It can be simple yet attractive. The look- and- feel should be exciting so that the visitor to your post gets attracted towards it instantly. Next your profile should be eye catching. It should give all the required information to your reader. Believe me, this brings in more readership and your authenticity as a writer increases to another level. Try it for once to believe me.

Next you should post relevant and authentic material on your blogs. The information you are putting in, should be informative for the reader. If you could phrase your thoughts in minimum amount of words then it would be great. Nobody likes to read too long posts (except the ones of celebrities). So do not post anything just for filling in the entries column. Read thoroughly whatever you write. You should be able to judge yourself if the content of your write up is relevant and comprehensive or does it make sense to even a layman or a novice?

The next thing you should keep in mind while writing is giving an apt and suggestive title to your write up. The keywords can do words if used correctly. Choose your keywords with utmost care and the traffic to your page increases on its own. Why? Simply because most of the search engines want the relevant keywords. The more the right keywords, the more your audience and thereby a boost to your online presence globally.

If you want to provide some links in your blogs then be careful not to overdo it. Although there is no set rule for it, but it is my personal suggestion that these links should not exceed from 2 to 3. These could be of your website, or any external link, hub pages or articles. Try to refer to important link lists.

How should I promote my blog

When you are done with writing part for your blog, next thing you worry about is blog promotion. But it is not that difficult. It is a simple activity that takes not much of your time but may demand a constant attention from your end.

There are a number of ways to promote your blog. What I did personally is written below. It might be helpful for you also. You can follow any or all of the below mentioned promotion tactics:

* Social bookmarking like stumbleupon, digg and many more alike

* Social media sites

* Give a link of your blog in your article

* Use Yahooanswers

* Provide interlinks

* Use Live journals/ hub pages

* Submissions in google

* Submit your blogs in blog directories

* Register your blogs with Blog Search Engines

- Blogscope

-Technorati

What are the benefits of blogging

As I have said blogging is done for various reasons, the benefits you reap are ought to be varied. On personal front, it satisfies the ego of the writer hidden within you. After all who doesn’t want to be heard? Secondly, you can have your say in your own way. What else do you want? There are no predefined rules as to what to write and how to write, if you are writing for your own fun, or it is your hobby or just trying a hand at writing. So just enjoy writing.

Talking professionally, blogging is the best way to find back links of business associates together as everyone with varied taste interest and ideas, opinions and perceptions relate easily with each other. Like RSS feeds blogs too can do a miracle in increasing web traffic. Constant updates, authentic and relevant content and appropriate keywords help the search engines to spider crawl your site more.

Your readers will come back to you frequently and consistently if you give the reader what he wants. Your readership increases and he takes interests in reading you. Hereby you gain a constant readership to your site.

Blogging also has an upper hand when compared to newspapers and press releases as it provides more opportunities of real time genuine discussions. In a blink of an eye the follower gets an answer to any of his query by your blog if you keep updating it and thereby you render an open medium to sharing of thoughts and discussions. The ideas of many flows in and interactions get a platform to be shared.

Blogging is economical and more user friendly as you do not need a web designer to update or maintain your site time and again. It is easy, it is personal it is everything but more economic. It is also considered to be the best Content Management System as you can easily manage your videos, photos, files, PDFs, and other documents. The key benefit is that the navigation bar of your blog is too capable to save every entry permanently.

Types of Blogs

Depending on the style of posts you can categorize blogs in various ways. In some blogs you can share your feelings while others might have been crafted for a corporate purpose while yet another can give you opportunity to upload video and share them globally. So basically, it all depends on your choice and intention behind it.

Your rationale for writing blog can do wonders. Don’t believe me! Just try it for once. I bet you will yourself realize how easy it is to pen down the ideas and give them a universal platform to speak your mind. Your idea behind blogging categorizes blogs under various kinds like:

Personal Blogs: It is the most typical use of it. Its usages vary from person to person like to share your thoughts, or describe any important event of your life, throw light on something or write about something you feel strongly about or just to have a say.

Corporate Blogs: Well, here comes in the main objective behind blogging. Corporate blogging is done for three main reasons.

*for promoting or advertising

*for community sharing

*for a PR relation

Corporate blogging can help internally by augmenting communication among the fellow workers and externally by propagating and branding.

Question Blogs: Is there a question in your mind? Try this. You will get an instant reply to all your queries. And who knows, you might even answer to the questions asked by others.

Genre Based Blogs: A wide variety of genres are included in these. From videos to photos, travelogues, legal or anything that comes to your mind.

Blogs by Device: The medium by which you compose a blog can also classify it. You must have heard of moblog. It is nothing but a post written by your mobile phone or PDA.

Blogs by Subject: According to the subject, this kind of blog caters to followers of education, arts, fashion, politics, music, education etc.

This is the most popular way to make money with blogs. You can ether register a free blog on blogging platforms such as blogger, or buy your own domain name and hosting. Whichever way you choose, the next step is to sign up wit Google ad sense for free and place their codes on your blog. After that, its all a matter of creating quality and useful content and driving traffic to your blog. The more click you get on those ads, the more money you can make with ad sense.

Affiliate marketing using blogs
Affiliate marketing in itself is a big topic, but to make money combining affiliate marketing and blogs, all you need to do is find a few products that you believe are useful, and can help solve people’s problems. You can write reviews about them or just promote them in your blog posts. The more people buy the product using your affiliate links, the more money you can make.
Keep in mind that in order to succeed, its best to become affiliates of products that are related to the topic of your blog. For example, if your blog is about “making money online”, people come there to learn how to make money online, so products that can help your readers achieve that, are what you want to promote on your blog, not any unrelated product.

If you have a product or offer a service, you can use your blog to promote it and find buyers/ clients for your product/ service. Blogging is an excellent way of getting the words out about your product or service.

You don’t even have to have your own blog to make money with blogs. You can simply write for other blogs and make money. Blogging is a time consuming task, so a lot of bloggers will pay others to write quality posts for them. Most of them offer a flat fee for each article you write for them. But, there are also so many blogs that will share a percentage of their revenue earned from displaying ads next to your published article on their blog, with you. Either way, its a great way to make some extra money without having to own your own blog.

Although as it is, blogging is a huge success and its a big money maker for many people, it is only the beginning of it. As more and more people become interested and start reading blogs on daily bases, there will be more opportunities for making money with blogs. Hey guys, how is things going with your blogs? You say you don’t have a blog. You don’t even know what blogging is. Or you have heard of it but you don’t have time to learn something new. You are too busy trying to advertise and direct traffic to your website? OMG, you are missing out on a lot of free targeted traffic by not having a blog. Let’s get a small preview of what blogging is all about and see if you may change your mind.

WHAT IS A BLOG?

Blogs, are also known by the term, web logs. They are all the rage right now online. The hype is all over the internet. Adults, children, movie stars, businesses, people from all walks of life and thier dogs have a blog. What amazed me is thatalot of them are making money by blogging. The big question is how are they doing it? What is so special about a blog that you can make money by posting on it? One important thing you should know is that a blog is like an online diary or journal. You can make posts in it about anything that you want to, and then publish it for the whole world to read. If you have never blogged before, it is a good idea to do so just for fun in the beginning, so that you can get a feel of what it is about.Chances are you will probably get hooked on it. It is a little bit addicting. Now that you have got the hang of the blogging platform, you are ready to make some money at blogging. However, for a beginner blog marketer,take it little slow and one step at a time. You will need to do things in order and that will help keep you from getting overwhelmed with it all. You have to remember: Oceans start with a drop of rain that joins with other drops to form streams, then creeks,a river and now you have an ocean. Now I am trying to be a philosopher. LOL

OK, so what do I blog about?

Ask yourself, what am I passionate about?  This can be anything that you know, want to know, or want to learn. If you already have a business or you want to start one this is a good place to start your niche marketing. Become an expert in that field. The more you know, the better. The niche can be anything that you want it to be. If you are an avid fisherman,
this could be your niche. This is a huge field to play in. Share with your followers about how to catch post spawn bass in the dog days of summer. Then advertise fishing rods, fishing reels, plastic baits, or your favorite secret bait. It can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. Think about something that you know and love, something that you want to teach or share about. You will come up with a niche that will be perfect before you know it.

NOW WHAT?

Now that you have settled what your blog is going to be about, you are ready to get down to business. One very important decision you have to make is how often you will update your blog. Will it be daily? Every other day? Maybe even weekly? Whatever you decide, stick with it and try and make sure that you don’t miss an update. Once you get followers to your blog
you want them to know that you will update it as often as you say. They need to know how often to check back for new information. You will build a positive repore if you post like you say you will, you will end up with a large reader base that will follow you anywhere. Keep fresh material on your blog don’t post the same information over and over.

HOW WILL PEOPLE FIND MY BLOG SITE?

Well now you have your niche chosen and you have decides how often you will update, it is time to get down to some marketing. To begin with, you need to get back links. Back links are important and they mean that someone is linking to you. Search Engines love fresh material and people linking back to your site. There are a few ways that you can get these much needed links. You can look around on the internet and find some sites that are relevant to your niche and request a link, or you can post comments on other blogs that are relevant and leave a link behind with your comment. A Word of caution, read the blog rules before you leave a link. Either way, they both work and they both count as links that you need to your blog. Also google backlink forums and free backlink sites for more leads. Join the free traffic exchanges and advertise. Write articles and submit them to Ezine sites.

ALRIGHT LET’S MAKE SOME MONEY!!!

Are you trying to sell things from your blog? If so you are going to find that promoting products in your blog is a great marketing technique that you can use. Bloggers do it everyday and make lots of money from it. Whether it is affiliate links, or your own products and services that you are promoting, you are going to find that blog  marketing is one of the best ways to get the word out and let people know that you are in business. Marketing from your blog has never been easier. Do some research about blogs and blogging tools. With all of the great tools that are out there for blog marketing, it is really hard to have a blog fail. You will be amazed at how having your own blog site will skyrocket your sales. Make sure that you ping your blog every time it is updated, and work on those back links, traffic exchanges and submitting articles.

How to Make Money Blogging – 10 Step Solution

Firstly, we all want to know How to Make Money Online, and one of the best ways I have found is by creating blogs. In this article I intend to show you how you too can learn How to Make Money Blogging by telling you how combining the techniques I have gathered from across the web helps to make me $$$ every day. Secondly, I am not trying to sell you my latest “Get Rich Quick” scheme because I don’t have one. Each eBook you read will have a wealth of information within them which will, without a doubt help you to discover the secrets of How to Make Money Online. I am only going to tell you which ones out of the 100′s available you SHOULD read if you too want to make lots of money.

I use a 10 step guide to setting up and starting all of my blogs.

I will give you a list of the top 10 resources later that I use and recommend to everyone who is serious about making lots of money online. One of the vital aspects people seem to miss out when they first get into blogging is the fact that their blog must contain information that people want to read.

Many bloggers are looking through closed eyes in this regard and if you browse through 50 blogs you will notice that most will tell you they know How to Make Money with Blogswhen really all they tell you is where they went on their vacation or how many cars they have.

Are you ready to learn How to Make Money Blogging?

If the answer is YES then read on and start to make money with your blog. I am not here to tell you how to write your blog, that’s up to you, but what I am about to tell you is the 10 things I use to make money on the internet. You can choose to use these techniques or not, that’s your prerogative.

Step 1 – Finding a Topic

Turn off your computer, grab a pen and some paper and sit somewhere you can relax but also stay focused (if you are just starting out this step can be a pain because we all want to know How to Make Money Online and we want to know how to make it NOW). Think of a topic you are interested in and write it down (this helps because you will be more committed to trying instead of giving up in a day or two) and also make sure it is something other people are interested in too. A couple of ways I use to think of a topic is by using MetaSpy to find out what people are searching for, Ask IQ to find what’s popular and VRE Toolbar to find out how many people search for the topic (this is also useful later on to get traffic). Write down your top five keywords, you will want to use them later in your blog.

Step 2 – Create Your Blog

Find and create your blog online. I like to use Blogger but other popular Blog platforms are WordPress and Movable Type. You can find all the help in the program you use to get information when setting up the blog. Create your content, make it original, and make it informative. This is one of the main keys to learn How to Make Money with Blogs. You need to include the keywords you wrote down in Step 1 in the content of your blog. Try not to overuse these as it sends out bad signals to the search engines, and this is 100% not what you want.

Step 3 – Go Google

Sign up for Google Adsense and insert the code in the margin of your blog. You can customize your ads in many ways, such as including text links or image links. I prefer the text links only, as they are easier to blend in with your blog and don’t take the focus away from the information. Google Adsense will probably not make you a millionaire but it is an instant way of generating a small amount of money.

If you want to track where your visitors are coming from with regards to direct hits or from search engine results then I would suggest you use Google Analytics and again you can get all the help you need setting that up from within the program.

You will also want to add your URL to Google’s index.

Step 4 – Find Something to Sell

If you don’t want to sell anything and are happy with the income Google Adsense is bringing in then you can skip this step. If you want to maximize your income and truly learn How to Make Money with Blogs you will want to find an affiliate program to join. A couple of affiliate programs I would suggest are ClickBank and Commission Junction. You can sell anything from office furniture, pet supplies, movies and clothing to PC games, Dieting tips and Audio software.

Whatever program you join will give you help inserting the code you will need to insert into your blog, but be sure you do this correctly or you WILL NOT earn money from your visitors. If you do not know how to edit HTML, W3Schools HTML tutorial is a great place to start.

Step 5 – Social Bookmarking

There is no better advertising than word of mouth, but the next best thing is social bookmarking. You will want to make things easier for people to do this. Social bookmarking sites I use and recommend are OnlyWire and SocialMarker and they are used for people to share their bookmarks or websites that they have liked with other people in their online community.

I would not suggest you add your own links to these services, but provide visitors to your website the ability to do so.

Step 6 – Write an Article

Whether your blog is about a specific product, for example a certain MP3 Player you are promoting, or just about giving people information, I would suggest you to write an article or a review of it. Most article directories require articles of 500 words and over so I would use this as a rule when writing to ensure your article is published.

Submit your article to any of the 100′s which are out there. I personally use a few of the Top Article directories such as EzineArticles, Article Dashboard, Amazines.com, isnare and SearchWarp. I also use a nifty piece of software called Article Submitter which will submit your articles to over 600 article directories, which saves you lots of time and leaves you to focus on writing your blogs.

Step 7 – Ping The Hell Out Of It

Every time you add new information to your blog, you want to let the blog directories know about it, this is known as pinging. Some Blog providers automatically send out pings when you update, but to be on the safe side you will want to do this manually too. ONLY PING WHEN YOU UPDATE.

There are a couple of Ping sites I use which will send a ping to multiple blog directories at the same time. PingMyBlog would be my first port of call and then if for some reason that site is down I would use Ping-o-matic. Remember, to only ping when you update or you could get blacklisted, and that is bad.

Step 8 – Yahoo! Answers and Forums

One of the easiest ways to get targeted visitors to your blog is to make use of the people you want to target. I would suggest you sign up to at LEAST one forum in the topic you are writing about, and don’t just go straight in there and start posting comments for people to look at your blog, they won’t.

The secret is to add the link to your blog in your signature and actively become a member of the forum, posting relevant topics and starting debates within them. The more you post, the more your link will show, and if you provide someone with good info the chances are higher they will click your link.

Yahoo! Answers is along the same lines as forums but the beauty of this is it’s viewed by thousands of visitors each day. If you don’t already have a Yahoo! account get one and then login and search for questions relating to the topic of your blog and answer them well. You can then insert the link to your blog and as with the forums, if you answer well you may have not only earned yourself a point or two on Yahoo!, but also earned a visitor to your blog.

Step 9 – Update Your Blog

This can be by several means, one is to add new reviews or content to your blog, and if you are going to do this I suggest updating every couple of days. This helps to keep the search engines happy as they love to see new and original content.

Another way of updating your blog and keeping the content fresh is to add RSS feeds to it. Make sure the feeds are relevant to your blog and provide visitors with helpful information. Visitors to a World of Warcraft blog don’t want to read feeds about knitting, or do they?

Step 10 – More, More, More

Repeat steps 1 – 10, this is the only way How to Make Money Blogging.

Step 11 – A Bonus Step

If you have your own product or newsletter, give your visitors an easy way to sign up to receive updates or information. This helps you to contact the visitor again with more great info or products you wish to sell.

How to Make Money Online is easy if you follow the above steps.

Some important things to remember so you don’t get disheartened with your blog is the fact that you will not become a millionaire overnight, it takes hard work and a lot of effort. If you are really serious about learning How to Make Money with Blogs then stick with it and eventually you will have an Ah-Ha moment. This is when things start to work and you think to yourself Ah-Ha, that’s how they do it. Your moment could be sooner than you think.

You should link together your blog and social media marketing accounts.  You want to create a network of resources that brings together your various marketing efforts.  Linking your blog to your social media accounts is essential.

 

1) Blog Postings on Facebook and Twitter

 

You can set up your social media accounts including Facebook and Twitter so that they automatically show a link to your blog postings.  This automated technique makes it easy to update your Facebook pages and Twitter account with your new blog postings.

 

One of the goals of all social media marketing plans is to keep content updated and fresh.  If you update your blog frequently you will be automatically updating your Facebook and Twitter account as well.

 

Make sure the titles of your blog posting are eye-catching and you can drive traffic from the social media sites onto your blog.  A short, catchy title will capture the attention of someone you are friends with on Facebook or who is following you on Twitter.

 

2) Add Social Media Links to Your Blog

 

People who find your blog may not know that you also have social media accounts and pages.  Make sure that your blog prominently displays an invitation for them to become a fan on Facebook and a follower on Twitter.

 

As a blogger you want to give people a ample opportunity to learn more from you and about you.  Linking your social media accounts to your blog creates these opportunities.

 

Web 2.0 is all about users participating on websites and networks.  A blogger needs to think about inviting participation on their blog and beyond their blog in order to create an overall user experience that builds loyalty.

 

3) Off Blog Feeds

 

When you set up your blog you will have the option to arrange a blog feed that other people can pick up and add to their site.  Basically your blog postings will be displayed on any site that adds the feed to it.

 

A blog feed can open up new traffic sources and revenue streams with no additional effort on your part.  You should also add your blog feeds to directories and other resources that people search in order to add fresh content to their site.

 

Remember, fresh content is a key to success online.  Your blog can become a source for content for other websites which means your blog and their website wins.  Link your blog to your social media accounts and blog feed resources for maximum impact.

 

4) Blog Set-Up – Plug-Ins

 

When you are setting up your blog you will have the option to add plug-ins.  There are many add-ons or plug-ins to choose from.  Some of them can be quite useful and some of them can be quite useless.

 

Since WordPress is the most popular blog choice we will focus our examination on plug-ins with WordPress blogs.

 

5) Blog Plug-In: Akismet

 

SPAM is a serious issue on the web including on blogs.  Akismet is a plug-in option for WordPress blogs that helps eliminate SPAM before it can appear on your blog. This free plug-in is essential and is considered by many bloggers to be their most important weapon against SPAM.

 

One of the first plug-ins you should add to your blog is Akismet.  Make sure it is up to date and properly installed on your blog.

 

6) Blog Plug-In: Add to Any

 

Social media marketing has transformed the Internet.  The vast majority of bloggers also have social media accounts.  Bloggers are typically quite actively engaged in social media sites and social bookmarking.  Add to Any is a plug-in for social media marketing.

 

Adding this plug-in to your blog makes it easy to add blog postings to your social media sites as well as to bookmark your postings.

Some bloggers even use their blogs as a means to advertise. Some authors advertise their books on the blogs. While other bloggers, use their blogs to shed light to currents issues, events, news and catastrophes.

Nowadays in education, blogs also play an essential part. Professors use blogging to document the teachings that they have discussed and taught. This way, students who who’ve missed classes, can certainly meet up with their assignments.

A lot of entrepreneurs take advantage of blogging your clients’ needs their businesses on their blogs, with untold thousands of individuals logging onto the web everyday, blogging has become a lucrative move. Some bloggers who run online businesses promote their merchandise online. While others profit through advertisement.

But undoubtedly, typically the most popular blog type is the one which takes are an individual journal. This is actually the kind that is usually used by first time bloggers. You know, normally you can find a definition of a word or phrase by typing “define: your phrase here” into google and come up with a lot of results. Currently there are millions of blogs and there are hundreds of people who call themselves “Blog or Blogging Consultants”, yet when you type “define: Blogging Consultant or Blogging Consultant” into google you get no definition.

That is probably a good thing for most blogging consultants because without a definition, there is no standard to hold them to. I’m not claiming to be the blogging guru of all time or anything of the sort. So before you “blogging consultants” out there start getting defensive about this, think before you write. If you get too nasty about the post I may ask you to define “blogging consultant” and without google many of you couldn’t do it.

Now that is out of the way, lets talk business. Every business should have a blog. There are so many reasons for your business to have a blog it would be hard to write them all in one blog post, so lets assume you know your company needs a blog.

So do you hire a blogging consultant? What qualifications do you look for in a blogging consultant? What does a blogging consultant look like? How much should I pay a blogging consultant?

Lets start with “Should you hire a blogging consultant?”

The quick answer is yes, but lets go into why first. There are a lot of things that go into making a blog popular. Technorati tags, submissions and pings to bloglists and blogsearch websites, learning how to get on the right blogrolls, etc.

If you are new to blogging it takes awhile to catch on to most of these things and most blogging consultants say that all of the above is necessary if you are going to have a successful blog.

There are more things to add to the list but this article isn’t about how to run a successful blog, it’s about blogging consultants. Hiring a blogging consultant can save you from making a lot of early mistakes and get your blog found a lot quicker than trying to do it on your own.

Now all the blogging consultants are liking me again. I can tell. But will it last?

What qualifications do you look for in a blogging consultant?

Here is where things get ugly between me and the blogging consultants. Most blogging consultants are . . . well . . . bloggers. Many of them have what they think is a successful blog although many bloggers have different ideas for what success is.

Some think it’s defined as how much they made on google adnonsense last month. Others count success by number of visitors to their website or the number of comments that appear on their blog. Still others measure their success by what the other bloggers think about them.

What do all of those bloggers who are blogging consultants have in common? They all think that having a successful blog automatically makes you a qualified blogging consultant. I told you it was going to get nasty. After this article if I measured my success by what the other bloggers think of me then I’m doomed!

Fortunately I don’t measure my success in terms of what the other bloggers and blogging consultants think. Lets get back to those qualifications for a blogging consultant.

First of all a blog is a website. It is a website that is updated often in most cases, but it is still a website. Each blogpost becomes a page of that website. So with a blog you are creating more webpages to your website as often as you post to your blog.

Now I have a question for you. Would you first look to hire a blogger to do search engine optimization for your website? Would you first look to hire a blogger to handle your AdWords campaign? Would you first look for a blogger to build your website for you?

The answer to all of the above is probably no, unless the blogger also has experience in those fields and not just for their blog. Actual websites they have built, optimized, and marketed for themselves and for clients.

A blogging consultant should not just be a blogger. They should also have all of the skills necessary to run a website. Now the blogging consultants are all mad at me again. But think about it. Many bloggers know how to write. They know how to get into the right circle of blogger friends who will link to them. They know about blogging.

So if all you need to know is how to write a blog, then hiring a blogger who knows how to write is the answer, but if you need someone who is going to manage your blog for you including posting to the blog, search engine optimization, link popularity, (and not just from blogrolls), and marketing, then you need to hire a webmaster who also blogs.

Okay, How much should I pay a blogging consultant?

How much do you have? Just kidding. A lot depends on the type of blog you want or have. A corporation blog has to pay more, not because they have more, but because there are all kinds of legal and policy matters that have to be considered with every single blog post and every single link to or from another blog or website. A small business blog doesn’t have many of the same issues as the corporate blog, but still has certain standards that need to be met.

If you have ever hired a webmaster, not a web designer, a webmaster, (Thats another article), or a Search Engine Optimization Company, or a Search Engine Marketer, or even just a Marketing Consultant, (The just was in there just so I could make consultants mad again.), then you have an idea of what a blogging consultant should cost.

Now keep in mind, if you are hiring a blogging consultant to strictly teach you how to blog, then it’s not worth as much money as when you hire a blogging consultant who is also going to perform all of the services a Webmaster and Internet Marketer would provide plus search engine optimization.

Ha ha! I still didn’t say how much it costs. It’s coming. Read on.

What does a Blogging Consultant look like?

He or she looks like someone who has more than just a blog or blogs. Someone who also owns and manages several websites for themselves and for clients. As I said before a blog is still a website.
