You will always walk one step behind Google. But what if you could guess what Google would do in the future with their algos? Then you’re a step further then Google! But how can you look into the future? Well, very simple, just look what Google did over the past.

The past

Google liked inbound links to your website, if you had a lot of good links to your page it would get a high ranking. Then webmasters thought of something, some kind of deal between websites: linkexchanges. Website A linked to Website B and Website B linked back to Website A. This way they could manipulate the search engine result pages by exchanging links with eachother.

Googles reaction

Google’s reaction on this new sort of marketing was to decrease value of inbound links from linkexchanges.

You can do this action-reaction thing with multiple SEO happenings of the past and see that google always decreased or increased the value of other factors in search engine optimization.

So let’s look into the future now…

The recent patent application filed by Google details numerous items the search engine uses to rank web pages. The specific application is summarized as:

The patent application sheds significant light for those pursuing search engine optimization with Google. Patent applications can be difficult to understand, so following are highlights that you should consider for your SEO efforts.

In addition to the manipulation of keyword density and meta tags, the patent application reveals that Google places significant value on how often your content is updated. Earlier this week I ranted about all the teleseminars and webinars popping up and how much of a drain on your time it is to just stay up to date on the latest marketing trends through these calls.

In the next week or two, Google will double the amount of TV inventory it’s making available to advertisers, ClickZ has learned.

The company’s trial program to manage television ads seems to have gotten off to a slow start. Our Google source said the minimum spend for the beta program is a modest (for TV) $10,000 a month, and just 50 clients have tested the system so far. We don’t know whether the new inventory is coming from existing partners EchoStar and Astound Cable or from new sources. Google announced the trial in April.

The name of the News Corp and NBC Universal joint venture video site announced this spring has been revealed: Hulu.com. What’s behind the name? Jason Kilar, Hulu’s CEO said in a note on the site, “Hulu is short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and rhymes with itself. Subjectively, Hulu strikes us as an inherently fun name, one that captures the spirit of the service we’re building.”

I have a confession. I regularly struggle with my time—especially when writing white papers.

I look at my “to do” list and freak out. I’m guessing I’m not alone.

Despite the challenges we face, there are proven tactics that can really help us sit down and write.

What follows are my top tips to tackling time:

#1 – Identify Your Productivity Zone

Figure out when you are most able to write. For me, it’s between 9am and 11am. You know you’re in the zone when you can crank out writing. When in the zone, I can easily write a few well-written pages of copy. When I’m out of the zone, I’m lucky to write a single paragraph all day. Find the zone and you’re on your way to more productive writing.

Looking for a way to increase traffic to your web site? More traffic to you web site can increase sales and advertising revenue. Once your web site is completed, the actual costs of running the web site are very minimal. The challenge now is to get more visitors to your web site. You can purchase PPC (Pay per Click) but that can add up very quickly. If you are paying 10 cents a click, and you get 100 people clicking per day, your costs just went up $10. Now multiply that by 30 days and you are spending at least $300 just for clicks. Out of all those people clicking, very few will purchase anything and your advertising dollars are not working very well.

However, there are some options that will not cost anything but will require some work.

First thing is to list your website at a free web directory, such as http://www-wide-world-directory.com (wide-world-directory) and then seek out other directories that will list you web site for free. This starts producing backlinks (links from other web sites to your web site).

Wife: “I’m getting sick of these harrassing bill collectors who call me all hours of the night and day.”

Husband: “I know Sweetheart. I’m going to turn things around financially for us. Bill, down at the office, says that there’s lots of money to be made on the Internet. I think I’ll go to him for some advice and see if this is something I can do.”

Husband: “Trust me this can really work. He told me the website to go and join up at. Can’t wait to get started!”
